Time in the Scriptures
Pray: Ask for the ability to hear God’s call throughout the day.
Jesus’ lament over Jerusalem continues God’s song.
Read: Isaiah 48:17-19
What is the purpose of God’s commands?
With some of God’s words, it’s easy to see the benefit to us. With others, we wonder: “how will that help us? Won’t my way work out better? Are we sure this word is really from God?” In the end, it comes down to trusting in God.
Israel turned away from God again and again. Keeping in mind that Israel’s story is our story: do you think we, as a whole, keep God’s word, or do we turn away?
“The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and left untried.” What might happen in your life if you were to take God’s commands and calls with complete sincerity, constantly listening for God’s word and obeying it as soon as you heard?
What steps has God been leading you to take this Lenten season to take Christianity more seriously, to more closely follow God’s call?
Spend time in prayer, committing this season to God’s work in your life.
